I can remember not many years ago — okay, it doesn’t seem that many to ME! — when CompUSA stores were the place to go for cutting edge computer stuff. In fact, I think I may have bought my first printer — dot matrix printer it was, too — from a CompUSA store when we made a trip to St. Louis, Missouri, with my two elementary age children along.
But, alas, Best Buy and Wal-Mart, according to the report I read today, were too big and too cheap for CompUSA to compete against. Such is business life, I guess, and word is out that the computer chain will shut its doors and start the sale of assets following the U.S. holiday season.
Which leads to an interesting question: If you were going to shop at CompUSA for the holidays, will you still do so now? If so, what about returns and exchanges? How do you return or exchange merchandise with a story that went out of business? Hmmm …?
