That’s the beauty of American politics — just when you think you’ve got things figured out, even a little bit, the American voter comes along and proves you wrong. I was sure Obama would win the Democratic primary in New Hampshire, and even thought Hillary Clinton might take 3rd, as she did in Iowa. For the Republicans, I figured McCain would win, but I thought Happy Huckabee might pull off an upset over Big Mitts Romney for second. I was wrong.
(Note all you fellow bloggers reading this: By linking there to my earlier post, the gurus tell me I’m enhancing the “SEO” of my blog. Plus I happen to think that, with this particular blog theme, that makes my confession stand out in red type. Best of both worlds, see? And by writing this as a separate paragraph in parentheses I can get your attention. Learning, learning, always learning — well, trying to, anyway.)
So what are we to make of all this? I dunno. Never claimed to actually understand American politics. But, as with many political cynics out there, I’m guided onward by that old truth: Never underestimate the apathy and basic ignorance of the American electorate.
Next up, Michigan, which the leading Dems are supposed to be boycotting as punishment for the Dem leaders in Michigan moving up their primary. That’ll teach those Michiganders a thing or two, eh?
Ah, well, what do I know. I’m just a guy who reads the papers. (Did I mention that my final picks for the 2008 election are Obama for the Dems and Huckabee for the GOP? Yes? No? Maybe?)
