I confess my ignorance. It’s not easy for someone like me, who considers himself to be an informed, liberal Democraty, to admit ignorance on important public and cultural issues, but nevertheless, there it is.
I confess I have not kept up with the whole battle over “Net Neutrality,” and, worse, I have only a nodding acquaintance with the organization “Common Cause.” I THINK I support both.
But, to be fair, I need and would welcome any comments or information you, good readers, would share with me by commenting on this blog post. I “Googled” the words “net neutrality” and came up with large interest groups who supported recent “net neutrality” legislation and who opposed the same legislation.
I tend to be very wary of interest groups supporting any legislation, and so I would lean toward measures favored by the “Common Cause” group — but I really know very little about them.
I can’t be alone in this mess. Obviously, I would favor open Internet access, the more the better. When I hear of corporations like Comcast saying they are only doing regulation in the best interest of all their Internet users — well, I doubt that.
Then again, when I hear that Google is supporting some of the “net neutrality” legislation — well, Google is a great search engine, but I have some real questions about the purity of their motives, too.
Anybody care to share their insights on this one? Thanks.
