Rush Limbaugh to world: ‘I hope he fails’

Yeah, perhaps you’ve already seen coverage of Rush Limbaugh’s remarks yesterday concerning Barack Obama — he hopes the president fails. That’s right. While 99 percent of the nation sees how important it is for ALL of the nation that Obama succeed, Limbaugh (and probably a ton of his followers) seems to think the nation’s best interests rest in Obama’s failure.

I understand the need for a “royal opposition” to make either or any party in power toe the line. I truly understand and appreciate that need. And I applaud that our Founding Fathers understood and appreciated the need for open discussion and open action by the government.

But I truly do NOT understand the miscreants like Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and the whole gang who would take delight in Obama’s failure. Let me hasten to add, I felt the same way about any liberals or others who took delight when President Bush faltered and had problems.

People, there is no reason for glee in failure when it comes to the governing of our nation. To echo the words of Benjamin Franklin at the signing of the Declaration of Independence: “We must all hang together, gentlemen … else, we shall most assuredly hang separately.”

Or better yet, in the words of the incomparable Red Green: “I’m pulling for you. Remember, we’re all in this thing together.”

Drivelocity, my son was by the house after work today and we were talking about some of Limbaugh’s antics and those of his “followers.” Son mentioned that he THOUGHT Limbaugh was convicted of some sort of felony charges over that drug use/abuse deal a few years back.

If that’s so — he’s a terrible role model or “guru” for his followers based on that alone. But then his devoted followers (do they still call themselves “dittoheads”?) have never let the real world influence them when it comes to whom they choose to follow, have they?

By Rush publicly announcing his desire, thus inspiring his followers to feel the same way, he is not only wishing Obama will fail, but also promoting the failure of the country. In my mind this is treasonous to the very core.

Treason is defined as disloyalty by virtue of subversive behavior and/or treachery: an act of deliberate betrayal.

When will they take this blowhard off the air?

I tend to agree that there’s a lot of mean spiritedness behind what I’ve seen and read from the “Right Wing” in general, and frankly from Rush Limbaugh in particular.

“Divisionistic rhetoric” is a good term for it. The man apparently doesn’t care 1) that the so-called governmental takeover of the nation he’s pinning on the liberals and Obama got its biggest boosts in September 2008 and following — under a Republican president, and, 2) if Obama fails millions will lose jobs, homes, and investments that may NOT be so badly hurt if he succeeds.

Personally, I wonder if Limbaugh would be so quick to hope Obama fails if he didn’t have hundreds of millions of dollars and a fat media contract in his own pocket.

    Harsh? Yeah, probably.

I think Rush Limbaugh’s wishes for the failure of President Obama only underscores the mean spiritness of right wing conservatives, who really don’t care about the country as a whole, rather their own personal agenda’s. In light of the fact that Rush is a drug addict who was busted for the illegal purchase of drugs, reminds me of the old saying. Consider the source. That’s what you must say to yourself when people of this ilk spew divisionist rhetoric.
