I admire Scott McClellan’s honesty. I think. I say “think,” because 1) I haven’t really read the book, only snatches and reviews about it, and, 2) I don’t know whether the book is any real tribute to honesty.
I saw a story just awhile ago on the Internet suggesting McClellan’s biggest revelations of behind-the-scenes intrigue in the Bush White House really were simply rehashed from stuff he read instead of any special, personal insights.
I have no problem with McClellen’s research and conclusions regarding Bush and his Administration. I think it’s a bit ingenious if he passed them off as personal experience or personal, “inside” information. But if his years-later cruises through political reality are based on research instead of machinations, hey, that’s all right with me.
At the very least, I applaud his willingness to stand up and take all the public shots coming his way. But then, he IS selling a bunch of books, too, isn’t he? Hmmmm …
