Years ago someone used the expression on television, “Bald is beautiful.” I don’t know who the comedian was, but that became sort of a cultural mantra for us “old guys” as we grow older and balder.
A new study done by a cancer research center in Seattle may give credence to the idea that baldness, if not a mark of beauty, certainly may be a plus for men’s prostate health. This study found that men who showed early male-pattern baldness (by the age of 30) showed a 29 percent reduction in the risk of prostate cancer. (I don’t have a link to the story; you can find it with Google or any other favorite search engine.)
The review I read of the study said it was pretty thoroughly done and, although researchers were stumped about the exact link between early baldness and prostate cancer risk reduction, they said it absolutely was true in their findings.
So, before you fret too much about treatment for hair loss, consider the loveliness — or at least possible health benefits? — of that baldness. Who knows? Maybe bald really IS beautiful?
