Iowa caucuses have started, so the question of the evening is: How big will KU win the Orange Bowl

Okay, I’ll admit it: I am too cynical to really care any longer about the Iowa presidential caucuses at this point. They’ve begun. They’ll end. Nothing much will happen as a result of it when you look at who is going to be elected President in November.

I really do not believe this single “straw poll of the faithful” in Iowa will even sort the field that much. I can tell you before the rest of the media who will “win.” Or at least, I’ll give you my predictions. Then, based on time honored traditions by all soothsayers and prognosticators since the Delphic Oracle — I will immediately reverse, back and shuffle, and do whatever it takes to make my predictions sound extremely insightful and insist that I picked the winners from the start.

Ready? Here goes:

On the Republican side, Mitt Romney will pout as he looses in Iowa to Mike Huckabee. Romney’s money has been wasted there. Huckabee didn’t need to do much more than sound witty, smile his “aw shucks” smile, wave his Baptist preacher background around, play a little guitar, and put his arm around Chuck Norris’s shoulder. GOP also-rans: McCain will come out stronger, Fred Thompson will sulk back to Tennessee, scratching his head and trying to figure out who he is, where he is, and why the ghost of Ronald Reagan couldn’t help him even a little bit.

On the Democratic side, there is only one name to remember from Iowa — Barack Obama. Whats her name and her famous husband, Whats his name, will seem just like that to Iowans. They like Obama, and they’ll further demonstrate what forward-looking/forward-thinking folks they are by voting for him. Democratic Also-rans: John Edwards will look stronger. Hillary will fade. Sorry, Hillary. America may well be ready for a woman president. The MEN of America simply aren’t ready for a competent, strong woman president.

Oh, yeah — the Orange Bowl? It’ll go to Kansas over Virginia Tech, and I’m saying Kansas by 14.

Ah, well, what do I know? I’m just a guy who reads the papers.
