Is the economy and all the economic woes going impacting your insurance picture? Your family’s insurance or medical needs? If you’re like a lot of people, you may be either uninsured or under insured in many areas. I’m totally without health insurance right now. But that has more to do with my job/career choices than any economic downturn. (Plus, individual health insurance instead of group insurance through an employer is priced totally out of my reach.)
We’ve all heard or experienced the woes associated with health care insurance in America. Clearly someone needs to take hold of the mess and make things better for everyone.
The auto insurance industry, however, is in better shape. They seem to be so competitive that it’s fairly easy to find affordable auto insurance quotes, whether from a “brick and mortar” agent on some online agency. I suppose that’s because, in part, most states require minimum liability insurance to be legal. Of course, there are still plenty of people who ignore the requirement and drive uninsured, but it seems to make a difference.
What’s the answer for health insurance, though? Obviously, as costly as ANY health insurance is, you couldn’t legally require some sort of health liability insurance, could you? I don’t know, but I doubt that would work.
I’ve often thought one way of providing health insurance would be some sort of plan that expands on Medicare. (Not Medicaid, Medicare.) Medicare and supplemental insurance(s) seem to be pretty effective for people 65 and older, but I don’t know what might be done to work that out for more of the population.
I hope, for my sake personally as well as many others in more need than I, that in the midst of all the economic chaos, we’ll find a way to modify/supplement/enhance/whatever current health insurance in this nation. I’m not so naive as to believe the government has all (or perhaps even any?) of the answers to America’s health care crisis. But I pray some combination of government and private “forces” will figure out improvements on the current mess.
