Depp’s ‘Sweeney Todd’ is coming to theaters nationwide on December 21!

If you love a good thriller, and especially if you're a Johnny Depp fan (aren't we all??), get ready for a holiday treat. "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," starring Depp and directed by -- yes! -- Tim Burton, opens in theaters nationwide December 21.

The character Sweeney Todd is buried in legend. Best guesses are that he never existed, though he's been the centerpiece of serial-killer plots since the mid-1800s. Supposedly, Todd was a barber who was falsely imprisoned. Tragedy strikes the barber's family while he's in prison. When he gets out he uses his barber skills, along with a sharp straight razor and a woman companion, to take revenge on those who imprisoned him. Or something like that.

The film is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's Broadway musical thriller from 1980. It has, of course, the benefit of Director Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (with delightful supporting work from Helena Bonham Carter) to give Sweeney Todd, "the demon barber," some great twists and turns.

Be sure to visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site and look around. (You can also visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace.)

I’ve found a companion website related to one of the movie's themes -- confession. You really need to visit, "Sweeney Todd's Confessional." That site encourages you to, well, confess -- own up to something you've done that you know was wrong, or perhaps something you did that wasn't your proudest moment. Really. You can actually use that site to phone in a "confession," leave a written confession, or even upload a confession video. You can, of course (and should!), be as anonymous as you wish.

Okay, here's my confession. The pressure, the burden, of carrying this around since I was 6 years old has been enormous. When I was 6, a friend and I stopped at the local "dime store" (yes, that's how long ago it was) to perform our daily lust ritual of staring at the toys and treats we could never afford. And I, well, I shoplifted a small piece of candy. It was a small caramel, as I recall. Probably cost a penny — which I didn't have. (I THINK I went back on another day to buy some candy and laid an extra penny on the counter near the cash register. I don’t know if I'm remembering that part accurately or not?)

What deep, dark secrets do you need to confess? The fun part about "Sweeney Todd's Confessional" is the chance to hear/see/read confessions visitors have left there. They range from sincere to goofy -- and all are just a bit bizarre. But then, sincere and bizarre form a common mix for most Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movies, don’t they?

Treat yourself to a Johnny Depp romp for the holidays with “Sweeney Todd” — and have a wonderfully bizarre time!
