Remember ‘A Christmas Story’? Here’s a place that sells that Daisy BB rifle

This "Useful Website" hobby equipment site was just too good to pass up. If you saw the wonderful movie classic, "A Christmas Story," this past holiday season, you know what my title refers to -- the 1938 Daisy Red Ryder BB rifle that "Ralphie" lusted for in the movie. And I just found out about the website "AirGunDepot.com" where you can buy one!

If you aren't familiar with the movie, or you have no interest in air guns , this might not interest you. But for the rest of us, take a look around. They have air pistols, rifles, and some fascinating replica BB guns.

A BIG WORD OF CAUTION: I make no guarantees that these "replica" guns are replicas -- I wouldn't know one replica from another. ALSO: Adults should always carefully supervise the purchase and use of the stuff at this website, obviously. Adults and kids alike should take caution around these products -- they make wonderful, fun hobbies, but also carry the risk of physical harm. DUH.

Having gotten that out of the way, I also found some interesting and informative videos on the site related to the air guns, BB guns, etc., AND, they also sell paintball guns and accessories.

If you're into target shooting and some great "gun fun," look around the site.

How to ease life’s daily stress — designer fabrics to soothe your nerves and beautify your home

Sometimes reading the news all day can really get you down? How do you unwind? Do you whip out the old golf clubs and hit the links? Personally, I pick up a good book or get out the old knitting needles and knit away at a sweater or afghan.

Maybe you're a fabric sort of person? Perhaps discount velvet upholstery fabric eases your mind and calms your nerves? If designer fabrics and interior design is fun for you, then you need to look around the "Design Diva Fabrics" website and be amazed. You'll find a beautiful selection of designer upholstery fabrics, velvets, chenille, and much, much more. If fact, if I had the skills and the know-how, I've got a sofa that's in need of reupholstering.

Ah, well, it's back to the knitting needles for me.

Take your online shopping list to eDealFinder for easy-to-use discount shopping codes

I've always thought it was fun to get something for free -- especially if it's something I can use! And if I can't get something for free, certainly discounts/coupons/promotions/discount codes to use online, etc., are the next best thing.

I've just been looking around at a site called "eDealFinder," a very extensive [discount/coupon/promotions code] shopping site. Frankly, there's not a whole lot of "sales copy" or information on the site, but there are nicely detailed, specific links to online merchants you can easily access along with discount codes/coupons to save some good money.

For example, there's an HP coupon section with offers that'll save you a good amount of money on a wide range of HP products and supplies. There are plenty of HP discounts and coupons there to keep you shopping!

Along the left side of the website is a category section where you can go to specific types of merchants, then to detailed pages with information about each merchant and coupons available. Or, you can browse all the eDealFinder merchant offers alphabetically by merchant names.

Pick up your online shopping list and have a look around eDealFinder.com. They might save you some money.

Supermediastore.com offers a huge selection of blank storage media

Here's an online store that's serious about offering deals on blank storage media. You know what I mean by "blank storage media," right? I'm talking about CDs and DVDs. SuperMediaStore.com, the website of a large retailer/wholesaler located in Southern California, offers thousands of brands and packages, not only of CDs and DVDs but also of equipment and printer supplies for producing and labeling large quantities of CDs and DVDs. For example, they have a huge selection of Primera ink, a specialized ink for specialized Bravo printers, used by many large CD/DVD duplication companies.

But Supermediastore.com is far more than a CD/DVD/labeling supplier. The store has a huge offering of high-tech needs, ranging from specialized printers to laser printer toner and supplies, as well as an excellent selection of flash memory storage devices.

Go take a look at their site. If you're in the market for blank storage media and other high-tech supplies, they probably have what you need.

As the son of a carpenter, I appreciate these fine woodworkers

My dad was a carpenter. It was always magical what he could do with some tools and some good wood. He had the skill to do fine cabinetry, and the strength, know-how, and ability to build a house from the ground up.

My father would have been fascinated by the timber framers and the fine workmanship in wood done by Vermont Timber Works. I found their website and absolutely love the photos and various projects they have there. According to their website, the company takes great pride in "working with architects to design timber frames and post and beam projects that are both architecturally beautiful and cost effective." They also emphasize their care in listening to their customers to give them exactly what they want in fine woodworking. I would judge from the projects they've highlighted on the website, ranging from private homes to churches to resorts, that they are true to those words.

If you're looking for fine woodworking and craftsmanship, or if you just enjoy looking at beautiful workmanship as this carpenter's son does, you should go to their website and take a careful look at Vermont Timber Works.

Credit cards can help you or hurt you — how do you use yours?

Credit cards are marvelous financial tools which can be very useful. Credit cards are dangerous financial pitfalls which can lead to ruin.

Which of those statements is true? That's a trick question, of course, because credit cards can be both a blessing or a curse. Like any other type of tool, they are pretty much whatever we make of them. People in the financial industry say we are making less and less of them, which probably is a good thing.

The bad news is that short-term financing is turning from credit card usage to home equity loans -- and anyone who has watched the decline of the housing industry in the last year is very well aware of the risks involved in loans against home equity.

Here's a site which lets you compare credit cards to help you make an intelligent decision about which of these financial tools may best suit you. In fact they have a couple of interesting comparison charts for 0% balance transfer credit cards and 0% credit cards. Take a careful look around their site. You'll find some useful information there about the credit industry and the variety of credit cards available worldwide.

If you love to travel, here’s a chance to win free tour tickets

I'm not very good at contests, but here's one I’ve signed up for: a chance to win 4 Sightseeing Tour tickets from "Trusted Tours and Attractions" in one of 21 cities. All you need to do is sign up for their monthly "eNewsletter." You can sign up right here. The newsletter offers monthly travel tips, links to travel blogs, travel related articles, and money saving offers — and did I mention you might win 4 free tour tickets? You get to select the city you're interested in winning tour tickets for when you sign up. (There's a December 14 signup deadline to be entered for the free tickets.)

When I signed up, I chose Savannah, Georgia. As a history buff, I find the city intriguing. I’ve never been there, yet, but I have high hopes. I’ve read about Savannah, about the city’s elegance and long history dating back to its founding in 1733. It was the first colonial and state capital of Georgia.

The Trusted Tours and Attractions folks have several Old Town Trolley tours in Savannah that look interesting. I was looking around the tour site and noticed one that sounds like special fun — the "Ghosts and Gravestones Tour of Savannah." According to the website, Savannah has been dubbed "America's Most Haunted City." No, I don't believe in ghosts — and I have no idea whether ghosts believe in me. But it does sound like a fun way to see some of Savannah. That particular tour lasts over an hour and takes you to the Sorrel Weed House, a real antebellum mansion which was recently featured on SCIFI Channel's "Ghost Hunters" program.

Check out the Trusted Tours and Attractions website. Sign up for their monthly eNewsletter and you could win some free tour tickets to your chosen city.

You know, San Diego looks good to me too …

Looking at a digital camera for the holidays? Take a look here

How do you use your digital cameras? You do have a digital camera or two lying around the house, don’t you? Perhaps in your cell phone at least?

According to some statistics I saw online, digital cameras were the most requested electronics gifts for the 2006 shopping season. In fact, we never purchased our first digital camera until about a year ago — and we still don’t have a phone camera.

We finally got a nice little Kodak, an inexpensive model whose number escapes me right now, so that we could take holiday pictures and have the convenience of seeing the pictures as we were taking them, as well as being able to store and share the digital photos via computer and e-mail. One of the joys of digital cameras is this "instant gratification" aspect. You can take a holiday family picture, regroup and try it again, before Aunt Mabel and Uncle John break up the family group to head for the cranberries.

To my surprise, my mostly-non-techie-wife has become the digital camera "ace" in our family. She picked it up and started taking pictures of the flowers she grows in various locations around our large yard. She's done some very artistic, beautiful work of individual flowers as well as groups of flowers. When I have occasion to use the camera, she's the one I turn to for pointers on framing the picture and how to make it look best.

I recently found a website selling just about all the digital cameras and photo supplies and equipment anyone could want. The site is RitzCamera.com & Electronics. If you’re in the market for a new digital camera, take a look around. They also have a wide selection of other electronics and film photography equipment, too.

What sort of digital camera did you say you have? Feel free to comment here and let us know some of your favorite camera tips and tricks. Perhaps you have a favorite model camera you would like to own. Go ahead, tell us about it.
