Adventure ends happily for ‘Teddy Bear Teacher’ back home in Britain

Saying she “… wanted an adventure … but got more than I bargained for,” British primary teacher Gillian Gibbons returned safely to Britain after being pardoned and released early by the president of Sudan.

You remember this woman’s travails after she was arrested for allowing her Sudanese students to name a teddy bear Mohamed — apparently not realizing it was considered an insult in Muslim nations to name inanimate objects after the Prophet. (Who knew?)

At one point in the whole episode, she faced physical lashings. She escaped that punishment, but was sentenced to 15 days in prison — and street protesters in Khartoum actually urged her execution.

Anyway, the whole incident seems like something surreal and sad. Glad it ended happily for the woman and her family.
