Acne app for your smartphone? Is this for real?

Every now and again, science makes radical advances — and then there are the oddball things like the guy who has developed an “app” for very popular smartphone on the market (won’t name it) which is actually supposed to be a legitimate light-based treatment for acne.

Yes, while admitting there are no scientific studies to verify that it works, this guy is selling his app to battle acne. It’s not a free app. It’s for sale. Hmmm … I wonder what the motive might be for this clever invention? Does it really work? Can you really hold your smartphone so that it shines on that face, neck, back, and/or chest acne and have those blemishes at least clear up if not go away entirely??

Call me a skeptic. Remember the guy who was supposed to be a legitimate scientist who had invented “cold fusion” nuclear power? If you remember anything about that, you know that serious scientists and physics labs worldwide took him seriously. Until they tried to duplicate his results and nothing worked.

That’s the category I suspect anti-acne apps should fall into. Yes, call me a skeptic.
